Good Trouble Roasters uses a sustainable approach to coffee roasting using an Air Motion Roaster.

This all electric machine is a very exciting revolution in the industry as it literally turns coffee roasting on its end.

But first, let's talk about the process..

Processing Green Coffee Beans

Each processing method has its advantages and challenges, and the choice of method often depends on factors such as resource availability, climate, and tradition.

Processing green coffee beans involves several methods to transform the coffee cherries into marketable green coffee beans. The primary methods include natural (dry) processing, washed (wet) processing, and semi-washed processing.

What's the Difference?

  • Natural (Dry) Processing: Coffee cherries are dried in the sun, then pounded and winnowed to separate the beans.

  • Washed (Wet) Processing: The sweet pulp is separated from the beans, which are then soaked and dried.

  • Semi-Washed Processing: Combines elements of natural and washed processing, aiming to reduce defects while increasing sweetness.

Why is Good Trouble Roasters different?

After bringing in a choice array of "green beans", the next step is roasting the beans to perfection. We chose to take a step into the future of coffee roasting and use an all-electric machine called an Air Motion Roaster (AMR).

Rather than using a traditional barrel tumbler, the AMR machine is set up with a vertical air shaft, much like a popcorn popper.

This innovation reduces the moving parts of the machine, reduces the noise of the roasting process, and helps reduce the amount of chaff in the roasted beans.

But most importantly of all, the choice to go all-electric significantly reduces the environmental impact of roasting coffee beans by eliminating the use of fuel sources like propane or natural gas and thereby reducing the air pollutants produced in the roasting process.

The Best Way to Consume Coffee

Green coffee beans are rich in antioxidants and can offer health benefits such as combating cholesterol, improving blood circulation, managing glucose levels, and aiding in weight loss.

Consuming coffee without milk or sugar is the healthiest option. This allows you to fully enjoy the natural flavors and benefits of the coffee, including its high antioxidant content. Adding milk or cream can reduce the absorption of beneficial compounds like chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
